Patriotism is the unwavering affection one has for one's own nation. It introduces character traits like devotion, courage, loyalty, and sincerity. A patriot is someone who possesses all of these traits and is prepared to devote his entire life to his country. It is difficult to discover true patriots.

A nation requires patriots for its effective development because they constantly put their country first before considering their own interests. Additionally, patriotism is what strengthens a nation. Our contemporary way of life is complex and filled with a variety of priorities. These are frequently the causes of conflict among the masses. People overlook their differences and realise the value of cooperation and togetherness when our society is threatened. In times of danger, patriotism unites people.

How to Become a Patriot?

True patriots are respected not only by their fellow countrymen but also by people around the world. To be a patriot, you don't have to be in the military or a police officer. Patriotism entails taking responsibility for your beliefs. Below are some characteristics of a patriot that are mentioned:

• A true patriot is above prejudice. He opposes injustice without taking into account a person's caste, creed, religion, language, or colour.
• When members of his community engage in corruption, he speaks up. He is adept at removing himself from situations where power abuse is prevalent. He points out the shortcomings of his government.
• He upholds the authority of justice and is honourable. True patriotism does not include turning a blind eye to an assault on an innocent victim.

Patriotism vs Nationalism

Both of these terms are familiar to us from daily usage, and many people mistakenly believe they are interchangeable. Some claim that nationalism is a particularly fervent sort of patriotism. Others contend that nationalism is less reasonable than patriotism. But there are some significant distinctions between the two words. Patriotism originally related to a person's right to defend their "land" or "country" from the King. Being a patriot meant defending your rights and being willing to defy your tyrant monarch's laws. The motivation to protect your country from injustice and abuse comes from patriotism.

Nationalism, on the other hand, is a bad thing. War results from it, and unscrupulous officials gain from it. People have led astray into believing in illogical behaviour in the name of patriotism (presenting them as honourable and acceptable). A patriot can put up with criticism and learn from it by expanding their knowledge. A nationalist, on the other hand, is blinded by ego and never willing to take criticism of any kind. He'll interpret that as a slight. Patriots are aware of their nation's flaws and its need for development. A nationalist, however, believes that his country is superior to all other countries. Nationalism prioritises a shared cultural heritage while patriotism focuses on bringing people together based on shared ideals and beliefs.
