A generation gap is a difference or separation in people's ages, attitudes, opinions, thoughts, fashion senses, and values. The age difference between those under 20 and those over 60 is significant. Most middle-aged persons still have ties to both generations. On the one hand, they support and adhere to their customs and traditions, but on the other, they are able to comprehend and accept new technology, which is advancing and changing every day.

Middle-aged people must split their time equally between their parents and children. In order to avoid the generation gap, they should balance it so that the older generation can relate to the younger generation with ease.

First, the generational divide was brought to light or emphasised on during the 1960s, when the younger generation at that time rebelled against the customs and traditions of their parents' or grandparents' generation. These young people were later known as Baby Boomers. These young people established their own personal sense of style in terms of their occupations, hobbies, and opinions on any other musical, political, or social issues that may be relevant to the world today. The entertainment industry was the primary contributor to this dramatic generational divide because young people at the time were heavily influenced by and avid consumers of it.

People today need to grasp and accept new technology as it is changing day by day. The current generation is incredibly capable of not just understanding it but also grabbing hold of it and using it ineffectively. Most elderly individuals are still not interested in or able to adapt to new technological and environmental developments that cause generational gaps.

Reason of Generation Gap:

The biggest reason for the generation gap is the lack of communication among elders and youngsters.

• Instead of spending time with their parents or grandparents, kids choose to hang out with their buddies.

• Another factor contributing to the generation gap is the use of technological devices, electronic media, and the entertainment sector, which keep people so absorbed in their particular interests that they are unable to communicate with even their own family members.
• The generation gap is caused by a variety of factors, including a lack of understanding between people, differences in experience or age, and environmental changes.

Effects of Generation gap:

Sometimes, it affects too badly the physical and mental situation and state of the people:

• People in their senior years get isolated from the outside world due to a lack of communication and understanding between the old and new generations, which is bad for them both physically and mentally.
• The generation divide has led to misunderstandings and a lack of emotional connection amongst family members.
• Due to their involvement in this rapidly evolving modern technology, the new generation has forgotten the virtues and values that their parents have upheld for many years.
• Unfortunately, kids and teenagers develop undesirable habits like smoking, using drugs, or drinking alcohol as a way to escape from loneliness or because of the unsavoury company they encountered outside. For their bodily and mental well-being, these addictions are too dangerous.

Despite condemning one another for having different morals and beliefs, it is important to comprehend and respect one another's viewpoints and objectives. The new generation should comprehend and adhere to the old generation's customs and rituals in the same way as the previous generation did. Both generations must accept the technological and vogue changes brought about by the new. It is important for parents to stay current with technological advancements so they can respond to their children's technical questions and issues satisfactorily.
