SAVE ENVIRONMENT, SAVE LIFE
The environment is a term used to describe the environment in which all living and non-living objects exist and form a bond with one another. These include everything like air, water, earth, people, animals, etc. Being a resident of a city, town, or village, however, we see that the area around us was once a natural landscape, such as a desert, a forest, or even a river, that has been dug up by people for the construction of buildings, roads, and factories.
However, even those who live in large cities rely on rural regions for their food, fish, fuel wood, and fodder, all of which are eventually taken from the surrounding natural environments. Due to our reliance on natural resources, we must therefore take serious action to prevent the destruction and depletion of our natural environment.
The benefits that come from the natural environment are wonderful for both people and other living things. Without these natural resources, such as air, sunlight, fresh water, fossil fuels, etc., life would not be possible. These resources are now being abused and used beyond their capacity due to the big population's growing materialism. This is proven to be more harmful to human health than "economic progress," which has been covered below.
Reasons to
Save Environment to Save Life on Earth
We must preserve our environment in order to preserve life on Earth. The following points describe pollution caused by the misuse and waste of natural resources and its effects on living things on Earth:
- · Air Pollution: Increased usage of gasoline and diesel for transportation as well as the burning of fossil fuels for energy in industrial settings both contribute significantly to air pollution. Sulfur oxides, hydrocarbons, chlorofluorocarbons, carbon monoxide, etc. levels rise as a result. These dangerous gases have a severe impact on human health, increasing the risk of lung cancer, chronic bronchitis, and other respiratory conditions. Air pollution not only hastens "global warming" but also damages the ozone layer, leaving people more sensitive to ultraviolet rays.
- · Water Pollution: Water pollution is caused by the release of untreated human and animal wastes into fresh water, the suspension of water-soluble inorganic chemicals from factories, and the draining of fertilizers and pesticides during irrigation in rivers. This renders the water unsafe for drinking, causing both cancer and gastrointestinal illnesses when consumed. Moreover, water contamination renders fish unsafe for ingestion by adversely altering aquatic life.
- · Soil Pollution: Chemical fertilizers and insecticides used in soil kill both harmful and beneficial pests, resulting in less nutrient-dense crops. Additionally, over a period of years, exposure to crops contaminated with chemicals as a result of soil contamination results in cancer, mutations, etc. The frequency of floods is increased by soil erosion brought on by excessive deforestation and construction, which leads to the tremendous loss of human life.
- · Noise Pollution: A hearing loss that is either temporary or permanent can be brought on by excessive noise coming from factories and vehicles. Noise pollution among Homo sapiens also has a significant impact on mental, emotional, and psychological health, leading to tension, anxiety, and irritation, which has a poor impact on work performance.
Methods for Saving the Environment
Looking back through history, it is clear that our forefathers were more concerned with protecting the environment than we are today. This is demonstrated by Sunderlal Bahuguna's contributions, who protected the forest resources through the Chipko Movement. Similar to this, Medha Patkar successfully protected the tribal people's ecology, which had been harmed by the construction of dams on the Narmada River. Today's youngsters can make minor changes to help preserve the environment in a similar way:
- · In order to prevent the excessive use of non-renewable resources, we should advocate for and put into practice the 3R's philosophy, which stands for reduce, recycle, and reuse. Metal scrap, for instance, can be utilized to create brand-new metal goods.
- · Save electricity by using energy-saving tube lights and bulbs.
- · When possible, utilize e-books and e-paper instead of paper and wood products.
- · Reduce your reliance on fossil fuels by choosing to walk, carpool, or take public transportation.
- · Instead of using plastic bags, use jute or cloth bags.
- · Use solar panels or rechargeable batteries.
- · installing a compost bin to generate manure to cut back on fertilizer use.
Conclusion
Although the government has created numerous plans and legislation in support of protecting both the environment and wildlife. Since we are the ones who will be reaping the advantages of the environment's protection, it is still everyone's responsibility to do so. Lester Brown's quote, "We have not inherited this earth from our forefathers: we have borrowed it from our children," is a really good way to express this.
